BM2, Driving the Roads
Your first task is to put together a driving manual. You can get the directions from me. Before you start, answer the following in 6-10 sentences:
Why do you think drivers need to know the fundamentals of speed, velocity, and acceleration while they are driving? What is the most common reaction time distraction YOU are likely to have? Answer in the comments

I think drivers need to know those fundementals so they can keep themselves and others safe when on the road. Also, they need to know that so they can judge how fast they can go while being a safe distance behind the car in front of you. Then if they need to, you can stop quickly and they shouldn't collide with the car in front of them. Also if they are just getting on a highway they need to be able to judge how fast the other cars are going so they know how much to accelerate to get up to the cars' pace.
The most common reaction time distraction I will probobly have is my cell phone. But the radio could be a distraction for me to if I want to change the station.
Drivers need to know the fundamentals so they can have more knowledge about how fast things can happen when you are going a certain speed. The faster you are driving, the more time it takes to stop. Also, if you are busy talking on the phone, a car in front of you could stop and you will collide with them. By knowing the fundamentals, drivers can be safer and prevent accidents from happening. They will realize that distractions can be dangerous and slow down your reaction time significantly which causes accidents. My most common distraction is probably talking with other people in the vehicle. While talking I become so involved with the conversation that I am not as observant to my surroundings as I should be. Accidents can happen in a split second and all drivers need to know the fundamentals of speed, velocity, and acceleration.
I'm Daniel Sunne, I just figured out I can use my Wordpress.com account here.
Drivers need to know the fundamentals so tha they can judge the distance between one car and another car. It is also very useful for estimating the time it will take for you to get to your destination. Another way this would be useful would be figuring how soon you should brake before you have to stop.
The biggest distraction for me would be the radio. Although that might change as some vehicles have things like the volume and the station on the steering wheel.
Drivers need to know the fundamentals so they can keep themselves and others safe. They need to know the fundamentals to know how fast they should safely drive. This becomes extremely important when you are driving down the road with a car in front of you. Suppose you need to stop quickly, if you are going a safe speed you should be able to stop without a collision. I think if more drivers knew about the fundamentals of speed, velocity, and acceleration they would pay more attention to how they drive.
I think the reaction time distraction I would have is talking to the person next to me.
I think knowledge of speed, velocity, and acceleration is important so drivers can maximize efficiency and prevent accidents. For example, if you can accurately judge how fast a car is approaching, you can decide on a good time to pull out without colliding. Also, you might not have to accelerate heavily and waste fuel. The same applies with braking. If there were more people who knew how far behind a car they must be to be safe, there would be fewer accidents.
I guess conversations, on the phone or with other passengers, would be the most distracting. Even not focusing on the road for a second could cause an accident.
I think drivers need to know the fundamentals of speed so they know how fast they are going. They also need to know speed so they know how fast they can go without losing control. They need to know velocity so they know how long it takes to stop their vehichle. Finally if they accelerate too fast they could lose control.
One of my biggest distractions would probably be the radio because I focus more on listening to the music than driving. Another distraction would be eating because it takes one hand off the wheel.
Drivers need to be knowledgeble about what they're doing on the road to prevent accidents either with other vehicles or ending up in a ditch. Drivers need to realize what could potentially happen in the second it takes them to be distracted. They need to realize how far they are actualy traveling in that second to realize the accident(s) that could be caused. They also have to have a general idea of the pace that other vehicles are moving at so they know weather to go, not to go, or how fast to go to again, to help prevent accidents.
My biggest distraction would most likely be my cell phone. I don't want to miss a call but I'd much rather miss a call than cause an accident in the second I was distracted.
I think Drivers deffinatley need to know the fundamentals to not only keep themselves but other drivers safe. They need to know how to know how to judge how fast they are going and how fast the will reach a certain point. Also, they need to understand how long it will take you to stop without hittin gthe caar in front of you.
The most common reaction time would deffinatetly my cell phone, I like to text.
Drivers should definitely know these fundamentals if they are going to be driving on the road. If you are texting or using your phone for something you are putting yourself and everyone near you in danger. If you need to stop for anything you need time to prepare yourself for that because it does take longer to stop if you are going faster. Also they need to know the fundamentals so they can judge how fast they should go with everyone else especially on the highway.
There are probably many common distractions i have while driving, with people being there talking to me or using my cell phone. The radio i can also see as a distraction for me.
Drivers deffinately need to be knowlegeable about the fundementals to keep themselves, and every one else on the road safe. Everyone should know about speed and velosity because they will use it more than they think. They need to be able to judge when to start slowing down and when to go around the car in front of them. They also need to know about when to put on their turn signal. Other people behind them need time to judge how much to slow down with out hitting them. I think that my biggest distraction is the radio. Another distraction would be my cell phone, and the air temperture. Drivers need to use hands-free on their cell phone so they are able to use 2 hands instead of 1, or even thier knees.
I think that it is important to know what you are doing before you do it. When your driving there are alot of hazards. You should only drive when behind the drivers seat, you shouldnt talk, eat, drink, put on make up when driving.
We have alot of laws but none that cover what you can do when behind the wheel. I dont think that we should have laws like that because I think that it should be common sense. =
I think we should listen to the things on the video, because people talk on cells and eat all the time while driving. Also i didnt know you travel 88 feet per sec at 60mph, and lets face it most people go 70-75 mph. so they are probably going 100+ft a sec. alot can happen in that 100+ ft. someone could pull in on an on ramp, or change into your lane and if you don't see them bang. Dead.
